It's Saturday in Cartersville and hello everybody! Josee Noble here, back in your inbox to get you caught up on all the most important things happening locally. Hope you all have a great day. Enjoy!!!
First, today's weather:
Partly sunny. High: 94 Low: 72.
Here are the top five stories in Cartersville today:
- Voting precincts stayed the same this year although federal, state and local district maps were redrawn last year, making it so that at least a few precincts and polling places throughout the community changed. However, those changes aren't going to happen this year, precinct lines will notbe adjusted until next year. Using the current system, there is a greater likelihood of office personnel making errors. "Waiting until next year, we'll have an opportunity to use a system that's a lot more user friendly," said Bartow County Elections Supervisor Joseph Kirk. Subscription: Daily Tribune)
- Both revenue and expenses have risen for the city of Cartersville from May 2021 to May 2022. Cartersville's general fund revenues increased by more than $2.5 million, the city's local option sales tax collections (SPLOST) increased from about $4.1 million to $5.1 million, and city building permit and inspection fee revenues surged from $290,963 to $738,512. Over that same one-year period, the City's expenditures also increased. (Subscription: Daily Tribune)
- Supporters of the life jacket loaner station and his loved ones gathered on what would have been Kaiden Lamar Franklin's 6th birthday to dedicate the structure to his memory. The fixture, containing both youth- and adult-sized personal flotation devices, free for use for those in need of one, is situated near where the Rome resident drowned in Clear Creek on Lake Allatoona May 28.
