Program Helps Freshman Students Gain Credit at Georgia Highlands

The Rome-based college is partnering with the University of West Georgia to implement its West in 30 initiative.

This summer, the University of West Georgia, in partnership with Georgia Highlands College, has implemented a new “West in 30” program.

This initiative is designed for freshmen applicants who do not meet freshmen admission requirements at West Georgia, which is located in Carrollton. This program provides students that do not meet the freshman admissions requirement at West Georgia to transfer their application materials directly to Georgia Highlands and be considered for admissions.

Students can begin their college career at Georgia Highlands, which does not require SAT/ACT scores for general admission, and then earn a minimum of 30 transferable hours before being eligible to transfer to West Georgia. Students may also remain at Georgia Highlands to earn their associate’s degrees before transferring to West Georgia.

-No additional application process for Georgia Highlands College.

-No additional application fee.

-Personalized advising to assist them with the courses they need to transfer to University of West Georgia.

-No additional application fees required to transfer from Georgia Highlands to West Georgia.

West in 30 students will have a personal transfer advisor assigned to them from West Georgia. and that advisor will visit the student’s on a regular basis to be sure they are on track to transfer.

“Georgia Highlands College is pleased to strengthen our relationship with the University of West Georgia even further with this unique enrollment program,” said Dr. Todd Jones, GHC Vice President for Student Affairs, adding the program saves time and money and allows Georgia Highlands ”to strengthen their academic credentials so that they transfer into their college of choice.”

Katie Taylor, West Georgia’s assistant director of admission, added they are thrilled to partner with Georgia Highlands on this initiative “in order to give students the direction and guidance necessary to make their dream of attending UWG a reality.”
