Projects Would Add More Lanes, Resurface Ga. 113 in Bartow

The Georgia Department of Transportation has awarded two contracts to perform the work in Cartersville.

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- The Georgia Department of Transportation has awarded 38 contracts for statewide construction and maintenance projects totaling $97.6 million, including two that would improve Highway 113 in Bartow County.

The agency's first obligation with funds resulting from Georgia’s Transportation Funding Act (TFA) is to maintain and improve existing infrastructure.

This month, pavement preservation dominates with 22 resurfacing contracts awarded in the amount of $58.5 million. This list of nearly two dozen projects represents 60 percent of the awarded contracts across the state.

“I am delighted that Georgia DOT continues to address maintenance that was previously deferred,” Georgia DOT Commissioner Russell R. McMurry said. “The funds that result from the Transportation Funding Act enable us to address our critical infrastructure - including our pavements. Our goal is to restore a 15-year resurfacing cycle instead of the 50-year cycle we faced in 2014.”

In Bartow County, one mile of additional lanes will be constructed on S.R. 113 from Old Alabama Road to S.R. 61. The $6.3 million contract was awarded to Bartow Paving Company, Inc. and completion is scheduled for May 31, 2018.

Information on schedules, lane closures and detours will be made available in advance of construction activities for the projects.
