Racist Graffiti Found Inside Empty Cartersville Home

The Bartow County Sheriff's Office said "KKK" and "I Will Kill" were spray painted on the walls and carpets of the home, which is for sale.

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- A home listed for sale in Cartersville was reportedly vandalized with racist graffiti, according to an incident report released by the Bartow County Sheriff's Office.

A deputy was dispatched to a call of property damage around 2:18 p.m. Monday, Nov. 27 at a home on Danby Court. The deputy met with the caller, who said she was talking to the homeowner about the property he had up for sale.

When she arrived at the home, the back gate was opened and when she ventured inside to have a look at the backyard, she noticed the rear door was "standing open."

Once inside, the woman said she saw the stove had been moved out of place and was sitting in the middle of the room. She went upstairs and saw that the letters, "KKK" and the phrase, "KKK I Will Kill" had been spray painted on the hallway floor, according to the report.

The middle bedroom of the house also had "KKK" painted on the floors and walls, and the back bedroom had the same letters scrawled on its walls.

The homeowner estimated the damage to the upstairs portion of the home to be around $4,500 and damaged to the back door to be roughly $500.

Bartow County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Sgt. Jonathan Rogers said detectives have no evidence or additional details that would lead to the identity of the perpetrators at this point. The home, which was empty, was listed for sale, and the offender(s) "forced entry through a backdoor and spray painted on the walls and carpet racial slurs," Rogers added.

"It does not appear that this incident was meant toward any individual, as the house was empty," he added. "However, it is very disturbing for the surrounding neighbors and community."

The Bartow County branch of the NAACP shared images and video of the vandalism in two separate posts on its Facebook page.

"This was discovered inside of a home in our great county," the organization said in a Nov. 28 post. "We must send a powerful and poignant message that this type of harassment is not welcome nor encouraged in our county."
