Railroad Work, Road Closure

Georgia Department of Georgia Transportation officials will be detouring motorists north of Cartersville.

Georgia Department of Transportation officials are telling motorists in Bartow County of a detour from State Route 140 at the CSX Railroad crossing near the intersection of SR 140 and US 411/SR 61 in Rydal, scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday.  

SR 140 at that location will be closed to traffic from 7 a.m. Wednesday to 5 p.m. Thursday to accommodate work by the railroad company on upgrading the crossing.

Westbound traffic will be detoured off SR 140 onto US 411, to SR 53 and back to SR 140. Eastbound traffic will be redirected to SR 53, US 411 and back to SR 140. Detour signs will be in place to help motorists navigate around the scheduled road closure.

GDOT urges motorists in Bartow County to watch out for the message boards at the closing points on SR 140 and signs along the detour route.

“We certainly hope that all motorists watch out for these detour signs and be extra cautious while approaching this work zone,” said Kent Sager, district engineer at the . “While closing Highway 140 at that location may cause the traveling public some inconvenience, it is vital for repairing the crossing as quickly as possible; making the flow of traffic on SR 140 safer; and helping the public get where they need to go in Bartow County.”
