Report: Dog Shot By High-Powered Rifle

A Bartow County resident who came home to find her dog injured and bleeding got a surprise diagnosis from an area veterinarian.

The dog appeared to have been shot, according to an incident report from the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office.
A deputy with the agency responded to an animal cruelty call around 4:38 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18 to a home on Holly Springs Drive in White.

The deputy met with the homeowner, who said she arrived home earlier in the evening and found her dog “lying in the backyard, yelping and crying.”
When she approached, she saw it was severely injured, and initially though the pooch had been attacked by another animal.
The resident took the dog to a veterinarian, who told the woman “that the dog had been shot by a high power (sic) rifle,” according to the report.
The dog owner, who called police upon her return home, said the dog never leaves the property. She was given a case number in connection to the incident.
