John Vaughn, a Kennesaw police reserve cop, was shot by his wife, but determined to be the primary aggressor, the sheriff's office said

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- An off-duty reserve officer with the Kennesaw Police Department who was shot by his wife earlier this month has been charged in connection to the domestic altercation reported at their Bartow County home.
Bartow sheriff's deputies and emergency medical crews were dispatched to a call of a shooting around noon Oct. 15 at a residence in unincorporated Cartersville. They arrived on the scene and were met with a woman applying pressure to a gunshot wound inflicted upon her husband, identified as John Robert Vaughn.
Vaughn was transported to an area hospital for treatment, and detectives began their investigation into the events leading up to the shooting. According to an incident report released by the sheriff's office, Vaughn was shot in the upper left side of his back with a .40-caliber handgun.

While at the scene, Vaughn's wife told police she "believed she shot him in the front." Later in the report, the deputy notes the reserve officer said they "got into an argument, I grabbed her by the shirt...I told her I was going to kill her and I grabbed her," according to the report.
Bartow sheriff's office spokesperson Sgt. Jonathan Rogers said the off-duty reserve officer was determined to the primary aggressor and was arrested on Wednesday, Oct. 25. He was charged with aggravated assault and battery under the Family Violence Act, and is being held at the Bartow County Jail pending a bond hearing, Sgt. Rogers added.
