Man, 62, Dies In Bartow Crash

The Georgia State Patrol said the back tire on the driver's side blew, which caused the car to spin and crash into a ditch.

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- A 62-year-old northwest Georgia resident died Wednesday evening in rollover crash along Interstate 75 in Bartow County.

A 2003 Honda Civic was traveling northbound between mile marker 293 and 294 in the third lane from the center median when the back tire on the driver's side blew, the Georgia State Patrol told Patch.

"The Honda began to spin in a clockwise manner, left the roadway and struck a ditch," the agency added.

Crews with Bartow County Emergency Medical Services responded to the crash and found two people with injuries.

The driver, Thomas Lawrence, 45, of Cleveland, Tennessee, was transported to Cartersville Medical Center for treatment. The passenger, 62-year-old James Bishop of Chatsworth, was entrapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated from the car, said Bartow EMS spokesperson Brad Cothran.

Bishop was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where he passed away from his injuries, the Georgia State Patrol added.
