Rollover Crash Sends 4 To The Hospital

Four people were injured in a rollover crash that tied up Monday afternoon traffic on the southbound side of Interstate 75 in Cartersville.

According to an accident report released by the Cartersville Police Department, Del Sidney Brooks of Chattanooga, Tennessee, was behind the wheel of a 2000 Ford Ranger near mile marker 288 just after 3 p.m. May 4 when he ”looked down at his phone and drifted into the emergency lane in the median.”
Brooks said that when he tried to maneuver back into traffic, he ”lost control in the loose gravel that was in the emergency lane” and the vehicle started to flip over, the report states.

A witness who was traveling behind the truck said he observed the vehicle first go into the emergency lane and started to rollover several times. The Ford Ranger flipped several times before it came to a rest in the tree line on the shoulder of the interstate, according to the report.
The driver and three passengers — two women and another man — were all transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta where they were treated for their injuries.
The accident remains under investigation by Cartersville police.
