Amazon Devices

Amazon Echo (Save $50) — Amazon's signature voice recognition tool gets the biggest discount it's ever had. If you've been thinking about getting an Echo but haven't yet, today is definitely the day to do it. And note that this deal is only while supplies last. UPDATE: Sold out at this deal price.

Amazon Tap (Save $30) — Amazon Tap, the Echo's smaller and more portable cousin, has a nice discount to it as well.

Amazon Fire TV (Save $30) — Amazon's popular and powerful video player has one of its biggest mark-downs yet. UPDATE: Sold out at this price.

Amazon Kindle and Fire tablet deals — Just about all of Amazon's tablets and e-readers have some sort of discount today. Some of our favorites include:

Electronics and Entertainment

TCL 40-Inch 1080p LED TV (JUST $229) — Amazon wasn't kidding when it teased a day full of TV deals. Here's another solid HD TV option at a great price point. Unfortunately, that means it probably won't last very long before selling out, so get in now while you can.

Logitech Computer Gear — Logitech put up a bunch of their trusty computer accessories, including keyboards, mouses, webcams, speakers and more. Logitech is one of the biggest names in peripherals, so if you're looking to replace anything on your machine, take a browse through here.

Samsung 55-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV (Save $302) — It wouldn't be a stretch to call this the grandaddy of all TVs right now. Samsung is the very best there is, while the 4K Ultra HD is the best picture technology available en masse to the general public right now. And at 55 inches, no one in your living room or bonus room should have trouble seeing what's going on.

Up To 30 Percent Off Device Cases — Amazon just listed a huge selection of cases for phones, laptops and tablets for sale. Choose your favorite from the bunch here, and replace that old case that you've been using way too long.

Polaroid 10MP Digital Instant Print Camera (Save $121) — This would make a great gift for anyone arts-and-crafts-minded who wants easy Polaroid printouts to put on their wall or in a collection. Or maybe that person is you. In that case, treat yourself.

Epson Home Cinema 1080p 3D 3LCD Home Theater Projector (Save $100) — Or, if you'd rather set up a home theater with a projector, this excellent model is as affordable as it will get right now.

Star Wars: Battlefront (Save $13.65) — The mega-popular Star Wars video game is just $26 right now for PS4, XBox One and PC.

Polk Audio MagniFi One Sound Bar and Wireless Subwoofer System (Save $135) — The Vizio sound bar deal sold out, and now this Polk sound bar and subwoofer are marked way down. This system will connect with your phone or computer in addition to your TV.

Razor Dune Buggy (Save $120.99) — Your kid will be the envy of the neighborhood when he drives around in this battery-powered dune buggy. But don't worry mom and dad: It only goes up to 10 miles per hour.

Gift Cards — Amazon has several gift cards for sale for less than they are worth. For instance, movie-lovers can get a $50 Fandango gift card for just $40. We're no math wizard, but that seems like a good deal. See who else has basically free money available here.

Doom (Save $30) — One of the hottest games of the summer gets a $30 price cut on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

3DR Solo Drone with Pre-Installed Gimbal (Save $551) — The 3DR Solo drone is one of the biggest, baddest drones out there. It can stabilize the camera while flying itself in several different flight patterns, so you can focus solely on shooting video. The problem, normally, is that it's way too expensive for amateur photographers looking to perfect their craft. Until today, that is.

Fossil Q Smartwatches — If you're in the market for a smartwatch but don't want an Apple Watch, Fossil makes classic-looking alternatives that have gotten great reviews. Pick out your favorite style here, and get it for a nice discount.

Bluetooth Speakers — Of all the Bluetooth speakers on sale today, we'd recommend this one from SoundBlock. But give the full selection a look, and see if anything else strikes your fancy.

Fitbit Alta (Save $30) — Fitbit's sleek tracker has a $29.95 discount when you buy it with an accessory band. If you've been looking to get into the fitness-tracking game, this is a great place to start.

Bose Wireless Headphones — Take your pick between two powerful and well-reviewed Bose headphones: $49 off a pair of in-ears for running and working out or $80 off a pair of around-ears for sitting at your desk.

SanDisk Memory Cards and USB Drives — If you need portable memory, SanDisk has just about anything you could possibly need marked down today, from SD cards to USB drives and more. See all of your choices here.

Exploding Kittens Card Game (Save $5) — Yeah, we're just as confused as you are here. But anything that bills itself as "a card game for people who are into kittens and explosions and laser beams and sometimes goats" has our attention. It's also the most-backed project in Kickstarter history and has never had a price mark-down until today.

Original story below:

Here's what else you need to know about 2016 Amazon Prime Day.

What is Amazon Prime Day?

Amazon bills Prime Day as a sort of Black Friday in July — one big blowout day for tons of deals and savings.

The company started it last year, when it was celebrating its 20th birthday. That year, Amazon said it would be offering 100,000 deals to customers and ended up selling 34.4 million items — that's a stunning 398items per second — beating its Black Friday and Cyber Monday records at the time.

But customers were also underwhelmed at how quickly some of the big-ticket items sold out and how lackluster the other deals were. So Amazon is promising to up its game this year.

When is 2016 Amazon Prime Day?

Prime Day kicks off Tuesday, July 12, beginning at 3 a.m. Eastern time, midnight Pacific. The deals will last throughout the day, with new ones being posed as often as every five minutes, the company says.

If you want a tease, Amazon has been posting "Prime Deals of the Day" here, which feature savings on some pretty cool items. But the big savings will come Tuesday.

Where are the deals posted?

This year, the Amazon mobile app will send you alerts to track certain deals and get notified when things you want go on sale.

Deals can also be ordered through Amazon Echo, Echo Dot or Amazon Tap, which all have the company's voice recognition software, Alexa, built in. Anyone who orders through Alexa on Prime Day will get $10 off their first order of $20 or more.

Of course, you'll always be able to get the deals through the old-fashioned Amazon.com home page.

Who is eligible for Prime Day?

Prime Day is only open to Amazon Prime members. If you haven't signed up yet, Amazon is offering a 30-day free trial here, so you can take advantage of the deals. Just remember to cancel your subscription if you don't want it after Prime Day so you don't get billed.

What kinds of deals will be available?

Amazon says deals will be happening "across nearly all categories," but there are a few that will be heavily featured.

Notably: TVs. Amazon says it will have nearly twice as many TVs for sale as it did on Black Friday and Cyber Monday combined. Amazon has been teasing deals on Twitter for TVs, Kindles, clothes, jewelry and more, suggesting that customers won't be disappointed with this year's selection.

Check out all the deals Amazon has planned here — and be sure to check back right here with Patch to see when they go live.
