Investigators with the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office continue to track down the man who ran from police after allegedly committing several thefts in the southern part of the county.

Deputies were dispatched to Emerald Springs Trail in unincorporated Acworth just before noon Monday to investigate an entering auto report. Around the same time, an investigator with the agency was in the area “following up on a suspect who was reportedly living in a tent nearby in the woods,” said Sheriff Clark Millsap.

As the investigation into both incidents was underway, Millsap said a gunshot was heard nearby and deputies called for backup.

“Stolen property was recovered from the campsite, including firearms and tools taken from burglaries and vehicle break-ins,” Millsap stated.

Several residents also reported seeing a man flee from deputies. That man, who remains at large, is reportedly a bald white male who was wearing shorts with no T-shirt at the time of the incident. He also had multiple tattoos, the sheriff’s office said.

Millsap added that while investigators have recovered a rifle, they believe the man may still be armed, as a pistol was allegedly stolen along with a rifle during an earlier theft. It’s unknown what the shooter was firing at when the gunshots were heard, the sheriff stated.
