The pursuit began when a state trooper attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle.

BARTOW COUNTY, GA -- A state trooper and two suspects were not injured during a police chase overnight Tuesday in Bartow County.

The trooper with the Georgia State Patrol attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle around 1:41 a.m. Dec. 20 on S.R. 113 at Dry Creek Road near the Polk-Bartow county line.

The vehicle carrying two occupants, the agency said, fled the scene, and traveled eastbound until it crashed into a curb on Old Alabama Road just east of Bates Road near Cartersville.

Not ready to give up, the driver struck a guard rail twice and continued to drive eastbound following the second impact.

The state trooper performed what's known as the P.I.T. maneuver, which ended the pursuit. However, the passenger inside the car was observed throwing a handgun out of the window of the vehicle, the Georgia State Patrol added.

Both the driver, 19-year-old Manuel Fernandez, and passenger, Carlos Remigio, 25, both of Norcross, were arrested without incident, and the trooper's vehicle sustained minor damage.

Two hand guns were recovered from the scene, and Remigio has been confirmed to be a convicted felon, the agency added.

Neither the trooper nor suspects were injured and charges are pending as a result of the incident. Remigio and Fernandez were both booked in to the Bartow County Jail following the chase.
