Teen Killed In Camping Accident; Funeral Set For May 25

Joelle Dalgleish, a Harrison High School student, was camping at Red Top Mountain State Park in Bartow County when a tree fell on her.

BARTOW COUNTY, GA -- Friends and relatives will soon say goodbye to the 10th-grade student who died over the weekend in a bizarre camping accident at a state park in Bartow County. The funeral for Joelle Dalgleish will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 25 at North Metro Church in Marietta.

Her family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 24 at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory, her obituary reads.

Joelle, a 15-year-old student at Harrison High School in Kennesaw, died from injuries sustained when part of a tree fell on her while she was camping at Red Top Mountain State Park.

Bartow County EMS crews were dispatched to the scene around around 11:30 p.m. May 19 and found the teen unconscious and unresponsive. She was later transported by ambulance to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead.

In a message posted on the school's homepage, Harrison Principal Ashlynn Campbell said a crisis team was dispatched to the school Monday to help students process the grief and pain of losing a classmate.

"Joelle was a valued member of the Harrison community," Campbell added. "She was on our school's cross-country team. We will remember Joelle as a generous young lady, whose smile and infectious laughter brought happiness to many students and teachers at our school. Joelle was a dedicated student and well loved by her peers and teachers."

According to her obituary, Joelle was originally born in Portland, Oregon, but lived in Acworth for the last 12 years. While attending Harrison High School, Joelle ran cross country during her freshman year. She was also a member of Sanctuary Church in Kennesaw.

The teen is survived by parents, Ken and Patty Dalgleish of Acworth; sister, Kylie Dalgleish of Acworth; maternal grandparents, Karen Pshena of Acworth and Norm (Rita) Brown of Tulsa, Oklahoma; paternal grandparents, Jim Dalgleish of Payson, Arizona and Beu Dalgleish of Gilbert, Arizona; aunts, Susan (John) Manuel and Stacey (Travis) Fentress; and uncle, Richard Brown.
