Tennessee Man Charged in Fatal Bartow Crash

A Tennessee man has been charged in an accident that killed two people Thursday evening.

Charles Larry Porter Jr., 50, of Manchester, Tennessee, has been charged by the Georgia State Patrol with two counts of vehicular homicide in the accident, which occurred on Interstate 75 near mile marker 300.

The state agency received the call around 8:34 p.m. Oct. 30. An initial investigation revealed that a vehicle driven by Porter and another vehicle were both traveling southbound on I-75 when Porter’s vehicle hit the second car.

After the initial impact, vehicle two “left the roadway, went down an embankment and came to final rest in a tree line,” said Georgia State Patrol spokesperson Tracey Watson.

Both people inside the second vehicle were killed. Along with vehicular homicide, Watson said Porter has also been charged with driving under the influence, possession of marijuana, improper stopping on the roadway, open container of alcohol while operating vehicle, reckless driving and failure to maintain lane.

Porter was transported to the Bartow County Jail where he remains without bond. Watson stated the agency’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is conducting a follow-up investigation and the names of the victims have not been released.
