Tractor Trailer Overturns, Traps Driver In Cartersville Accident

The accident involving two tractor trailers shut down I-75 in Cartersville for an extended period of time.

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- The drivers of two tractor trailers were involved a major collision Thursday evening in Cartersville.

Crews with Bartow County Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to the crash around 11:30 p.m. Jan. 19 on I-75 northbound near the S.R. 113/Main Street interchange.

The accident involved two tractor trailers, one of which overturned and entrapped the driver inside the cab, said Bartow EMS spokesperson Brad Cothran.

Cartersville police spokesperson Lt. Mike Bettikofer added initial reports indicate one truck hydroplaned, and the driver lost control of the vehicle.

EMS crews arrived to find one patient with a possible leg fracture, and transported him to Cartersville Medical Center. The other patient was reportedly trapped inside the truck, which had "extensive damage," Cothran said.

The victim was subsequently extricated and transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital for treatment of numerous injuries.

The collision left that stretch of I-75 closed for an extended period of time, Bettikofer stated. The lanes subsequently reopened after midnight.
