The shift will take place Jan. 7 along S.R. 20 between Interstate 75 and Walmart in Cartersville. Traffic on both east and westbound lanes from I-75 to Walmart will be shifted onto the northbound lanes, the agency said.
The newly constructed lanes on the new location portion of the project between Walmart and Peeples Valley Road will be open to traffic.

Motorists should note this traffic shift is weather permitting and subject to change, however.
“We certainly hope that all motorists watch out for this traffic shift and be extra cautious, while approaching this work zone,” said DeWayne Comer, district engineer at the DOT office in Cartersville. “This project may be causing the public some inconvenience, but upon completion, it will improve the flow of traffic in the area, make it safer and help the public get where they need to go in Bartow County,” Comer explained.
Construction on this stretch of S.R. 20 is part of a 2.15-mile project of widening and reconstruction on S.R. 20 from U.S. 411/S.R. 61 and to I-75 in Bartow County. This project has been under construction since November 2013, and is expected to be completed by the end of May, at a construction cost of $15.7 million.
