Tunnel Hill Elementary Receives School Crashers Makeover

Tunnel Hill, GA (July 21, 2016) - During the Georgia United School Crasher’s Call for Nominations, Tunnel Hill Elementary Media Specialist, Denise Hornsby, submitted an application for a media center makeover. That submission earned the Georgia Blue Ribbon School a $10,000 grant in Georgia United’s 3rd annual School Crashers school improvement program. Tunnel Hill received their award on Saturday July 16th during the school’s campus beautification work day with 30 credit union and community volunteers on hand to assist.

Tunnel Hill was selected as a 2016 School Crashers runner-up grant recipient for a media center makeover, receiving 25 Chromebook computers donated by Georgia United and carpet donated by Mohawk Commercial Carpets. Tunnel Hill is a small community school in Whitfield County, whose media center is not only open for students but for the community as well. With the media center being used continuously, it was in desperate need of a makeover.

The school located at 203 E School St. Tunnel Hill, GA, has 350 students and 50 faculty/staff and was one of five runner-up grant recipient schools selected from hundreds of entries this spring. Principal Connie Kopcsak worked with both Georgia United branch locations in Dalton over the summer to coordinate School Crasher improvements for completion before the new school year in August.
