Veterans Benefit Expo Set For March 16 at Chattahoochee Tech

ACWORTH, GA -- In an effort to better serve those who have served this country, Chattahoochee Technical College will host a free Veteran and Family Member Benefit Expo next month at its North Metro Campus.

The expo will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 16 in Building D at the campus, which is located at 5198 Ross Road in Acworth.

Invitees include guardsmen and reservists from the Air Force, Army, Navy and Marines at Dobbins Air Reserve Base, Chattahoochee Tech’s current student enrollment of more than 700 veterans and veteran family members, as well as other veterans residing in the college’s six-county service area and beyond.

“The benefit expo is intended to inform our military, veterans, and veteran family members about benefits, services and support channels in our college and in the local area,” said Chattahoochee Tech Veteran Service Coordinator Dr. Barry Munday. “The underlying objective is to reach out to those military affiliated members of our community and provide an opportunity for them to learn more about earned benefits and services, as well.”

The summit will bring together more than 20 resources that exist for the purpose of supporting veterans as well as their family members who may be struggling to adapt to civilian life.

Attendees will be afforded the opportunity to speak with representatives from numerous support services to gain a better insight into what resources are available. A partial list of participating vendors includes Cobb County Veterans Court, COBB Works, CTC Career Services, Georgia Department of Labor, representatives from the Georgia Department of Veteran Services Bartow and Cherokee field offices and Reinhardt University.

Lunch will also be provided.

Chattahoochee Tech hosted the inaugural resource summit last spring, serving more than 100 military members, veterans and veteran family members. Attendees gained insight into resume building, networking opportunities and how to acclimate to the civilian environment.

“We were extremely satisfied with the outcome of last year’s veteran summit and are proud to offer this event again,” Munday said. “Our intentions are to help bridge the gap between our veteran population and local businesses in our service area looking for highly qualified applicants.”
