Volunteers Still Needed for Magnolia Designer Show House

Show House to Benefit Advocates for Children

With Magnolia Designer Show House opening this week, volunteers are still needed on several upcoming dates. Between Oct. 19 and Nov. 13, volunteers are needed to act as docents in specific areas of the house, as well as selling tickets and checking in visitors. Sign up is ongoing at AdvoChild.org/MagVolunteer.

The Magnolia Designer Show House is located in Cartersville’s Cherokee-Cassville Historic District. Atlanta magazine, Atlanta magazine’s HOME, and Beverly Baribault Design Group are opening the home to the public for four weeks with ticket proceeds going to benefit Advocates for Children. The homes interior and exterior spaces have been renovated and redesigned with a common theme of bringing a contemporary edge to the traditional qualities of the house that was built in the early 1940s for Dargan and Lucille Cole.

Designed by Smith & Daves architectural firm, the house’s classic design was inspired by a drawing from famed architect and family friend Philip Trammell Shutze. With most of Shutze approximately 750 residential, commercial, and community works situated in Fulton County, the home is a rare treat for architecture enthusiasts north of the perimeter.

Volunteers will be assigned duties such as registration and ticket sales on-site, as well as answering questions, directing guests, and welcoming them into the home. As the home is not accessible for those with mobility issues, there are limited spots available for those who cannot use the narrow staircase or hallways. Volunteers may sign up as individuals or as groups at AdvoChild.org/MagVolunteer.

Tickets are currently available for purchase online at AtlantaMagazine.com/Magnolia or at the door for $20. They are good for any day that the home is open for self-guided tours. Hours for Magnolia Designer Show House are Wednesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 19-Nov. 13. Private group tours are also available.
