Here are the top three stories today in Cartersville:

  1. Tabernacle and Good Neighbor open homeless warming shelter: The forecasted extreme cold coming up this week has prompted the Good Neighbor Homeless Shelter and Tabernacle Baptist Church to team up. For anyone needing shelter from the cold, Tabernacle Baptist Church, located at 31 Douglas St., will open its doors to provide warmth. The warming shelter will be open starting Thursday 5pm-7:30 am, Friday 5pm-7:30am, Saturday 7pm-7:30am and Sunday 5pm-7:30am. If you have any questions, contact Justin Greene at 470-601-4243 or Rusty Gunter at 470-601-3090. (Bartow County Fire & Emergency Services via Facebook)
  2. Johnny Archer's bar, located on S Tennessee Street, has failed to provide the city's alcohol control board with the documents necessary to keep its alcohol permit. The board called a special meeting to address the issue. A motion was unanimously approved for the business owner to be served a notice to appear before the board. 3. Saturday, December 17 was the 15th annual Bartow County Shop with a Hero event. The children were paired with a volunteer and spent $100 on clothes and $50 on whatever they chose. Thank you to Walmart, Ingles, Clarence Brown Center, Piedmont Cartersville Medical Center and Doug's Place for providing the food/drinks and a place for the event. Our community's generosity made it possible to give 205 middle and high school students $100 gift cards to TJ Maxx. (Bartow County Sheriff's Office via Facebook)
