Woman, 27, Dies After Motorcycle Hits Deer

After the collision, both the operator and the passenger were ejected from the bike.

POLK COUNTY, GA -- Charges are pending in a single-vehicle crash involving a deer in nearby Polk County.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, a motorcycle was traveling southbound on S.R. 113 around 1:25 p.m. May 7 when the vehicle struck a deer in the roadway.

The operator of the motorcycle, 45-year-old Jason R. Maginness of Taylorsville, lost control of the motorcycle and traveled off the west side of the highway, GSP notes.

Both Maginness and his passenger, 27-year-old Jacqueline D. Willis of Taylorsville, were both ejected from the motorcycle. Willis was pronounced dead at the scene, and Maginness was transported by air to Grady Memorial Hospital, the agency said.

Maginness was "found to be driving on a suspended license for a previous DUI charge," a spokesperson with the agency added.

The state agency's Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is conducting a follow-up investigation, and charges are pending the completion of that probe.
