UPDATE: Man, Woman Dead in Apparent Murder-Suicide

A man fatally shot a woman before turning a gun onto himself Monday afternoon in Euharlee, which is west of Cartersville.

UPDATE at 7:30 p.m.:

Euharlee Police Chief Terry Harget said the body of a man who police say fatally shot a woman Monday afternoon was found inside the home on Winchester Drive.

Harget told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that a SWAT team attempted to make contact with the man following the shooting, but were unsuccessful in their efforts. Law enforcement officials obtained a search warrant to enter the house, where the man’s body was discovered. Police believe the man — believed to be the woman’s boyfriend — took his own life after he fatally shot the woman, the AJC said.

A woman passed away Monday afternoon from injuries she sustained from a shooting at a home in Euharlee.

First responders with Bartow County Emergency Medical Services were dispatched between 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. March 2 to the home on Winchester Drive.

Bartow EMS spokesperson Brad Cothran said authorities, including officials with the Euharlee Police Department, Bartow County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia State Patrol, arrived to the scene and found a woman on the back porch with “numerous gunshot wounds.”

EMS crews immediately began treatment of the woman at the scene, and eventually transported the patient to Cartersville Medical Center where Cothran said she passed away.

The incident propelled the Bartow County School System to place Euharlee Elementary and Woodland Middle schools on what it refers to as Code Yellow status, according to its Facebook page.

The Code Yellow designation means both schools’ exterior doors were locked and “all outside activity was suspended due to a criminal incident nearby.”

“Extra campus police officers were on campus as well,” the school system said.
