Woodland Finishes Second, Cass Places Fourth at State Wrestling Tourney

Woodland High School made the state championship match and Cass High School had a quality performance at the State Duals Tournament.

Woodland High School finished second and Cass High School placed fourth this past weekend at the Georgia High School Association’s Wrestling State Duals Championship at the Centreplex in Macon.

Woodland, in the state title match for the fourth year in a row, fell to Camden County in the finals 40-19.

The Wildcats earned their way to this year’s state championship match by defeating Gainesville (63-6), LaGrange (65-9), and Ola (42-21) in the first three rounds.

Cass opened the tournament with a victory over Jones County (40-37) before losing to Camden County in the quarterfinals. The eventual state champs outscored the Colonels 48-12.

In consolation rounds, Cass defeated Gainesville (51-23), Clarke Central (43-17), and Ola (45-18) before dropping the third place match to Allatoona (48-18).

Both teams will now turn their focus to the remaining weeks of the 2014-15 season and the traditional wrestling format. Cass High School will host the Area 7-AAAAA traditional tournament Jan. 30-31.
