Eric Helvy, a long-standing small business owner, community leader, and educator in Atlanta was recently featured as a "Profile In Courage" by S.E. Region News.

Barring three unique exceptions – Meisha Mainor, Melvin Everson, and Willie Talton – there have been no Black Republicans in the Georgia General Assembly since the Reconstruction era -- a span of over one hundred years. Helvy is one of the select few who are running for office that could break this record.

"I am honored to have been selected to receive a "Profile In Courage" acknowledgement by S.E. Region News," states Helvy.

"There is a tremendous leadership opportunity that lies ahead of us in Georgia -- and in our communities -- in this midterm election cycle. There are a number of seats that will be opening up in the House and the Senate, because many of those elected officials chose to run for another office. There are key committee appointments, key caucus positions, that will be undetermined until after January of 2027.

"This means there will be a significant number of newly elected Senators. Fresh leaders with fresh starts will be filling an unprecedented vacuum of departed, some long-standing Senate leaders.

"As a Georgia State Senate candidate for District 38, I am excited to be a part of this historic opportunity for new conversations, new communications across the aisle. I am equally excited about the opening this creates for new relationships, and new collective visioning."
