1. PAWS Humane director updates Columbus Council on Georgetown cat colony (wrbl.com) â Columbus residents in the Georgetown neighborhood may soon see fewer feral cats as PAWS Humane continues trapping, neutering or spaying, and returning animals after months of complaints to City Council. The organization says it has already fixed multiple cats, identified several feeders, and is educating caregivers while gradually winding down intensive trapping efforts across several nearby streets.

2. Goodwill presents $30,000 donation to Georgia Sheriffs' Association (wtvm.com) â Goodwill Industries of the Southern Rivers just presented a $30,000 check in Columbus to support Georgia Sheriffs' Youth Homes, with the ceremony held at the Muscogee County Sheriff's Office on 5th Avenue. Local leaders say shoppers' round-up donations will fund safe housing, education support, life-skills training, and counseling for abused and neglected children across Georgia.

Story of Bat Boy, a 1990s 'pop phenom,' will be on Columbus State stage (ledger-enquirer.com) â A quirky, high-energy production of "Bat Boy: The Musical" is coming to Columbus State University's Riverside Theatre Complex downtown, with performances Oct. 2-10. Student cast members describe juggling classes with rehearsals while inviting locals to enjoy a funny, outlandish story that still tackles themes of prejudice, community, and human connection in an age of AI-created content.

New book tracks the rise of iconic Tom's Foods (douglascountysentinel.com) â Columbus plays a starring role in a new history of Tom's Foods, tracing how Tom Huston's peanut innovations and the local plant helped diversify the Southern economy beyond cotton. The book, "A Legacy in Peanuts," explores the company's rise, its impact on Columbus workers and farmers, and Huston's partnership with George Washington Carver.
