Columbus council votes to extend Uptown curfew for minors through 2027 (columbustimes.com) — Columbus City Council has extended the 9 p.m. curfew for anyone under 18 in the 12-block Uptown entertainment district through September 30, 2027, affecting local teens and families immediately. Officials say the rule is meant to improve safety, though at least one councilor questioned extending it without first reviewing data. Penalties escalate from a warning to fines up to $1,000.
2. Driver who crashed at Hannan Elementary dies from health complications (wgno.com) — A driver involved in a crash outside Hannan Elementary in Columbus has died after what officials describe as a medical emergency behind the wheel. Muscogee County's coroner says 63-year-old William Toney Viggins suffered cardiac arrest, leading to the accident, while Columbus Police and school officials report that students and staff remained safe despite temporary disruption at the school entrance.
3. Calvary Christian announces resignation of Head Football Coach Emmanuel Brunson (wrbl.com) — Calvary Christian School in Columbus has announced that head football coach Emmanuel Brunson is resigning, with assistant coach JD Roberson stepping in as interim head coach. Brunson, who led the program for four seasons, will remain at the school as a physical education teacher and stresses that his decision to resign was voluntary and planned to take effect December 1.
4. Columbus Trade Center to host Dolly Parton tribute this weekend. (ledger-enquirer.com) — Columbus fans of Dolly Parton can celebrate her legacy on October 3 at the Columbus Convention and Trade Center with live music, shopping, themed snacks, and a Dolly-inspired fashion show. Proceeds support the Muscogee County Library Foundation's push to add thousands of new books. Guests are encouraged to dress in their best Dolly looks for judged categories.
