FORSYTH COUNTY, GA — A suspected foreign national has been arrested in connection with the shooting of his roommate Wednesday night at a Shiloh Road home, Forsyth County authorities said Thursday.
The shooting happened around 8 p.m. in the county's southern region, the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said.
When deputies arrived, authorities said they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he remained in critical condition, authorities said.
Investigators identified the shooting suspect as the man's roommate, Jose Luis Delgado Mendoza, 35, authorities said.
Detectives worked throughout the night and into Thursday morning to locate Mendoza, who was found around noon near Redi Road, authorities said.
He was taken into custody without incident and is facing charges of aggravated assault, authorities said. He is being held at the Forsyth County Jail.
During the investigation, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security notified local authorities that Mendoza did not appear to be in the U.S. lawfully, the sheriff's office said. The department added federal authorities are separately investigating Mendoza's immigration status.
“Our deputies, detectives, crime scene personnel, fugitive unit deputies, dispatchers and support staff worked tirelessly to identify and apprehend this suspect in less than 24 hours,” Forsyth County Sheriff Ron Freeman said in a news release. “I am extremely proud of the professionalism, teamwork and dedication displayed by everyone involved while continuing to focus on the care and well-being of the victim and his family.”
