Today's riddle: What do you call a belt that is made of watches? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Drunken driver crossed center line, seriously injuring 74-year-old woman, indictment says (wsbtv.com) — A Forsyth County man has been indicted after deputies say he crossed the center line on Majors Road near Big Creek Bridge in Cumming while allegedly drunk and driving on a revoked license, seriously injuring a 74-year-old woman. Investigators report he showed signs of impairment, refused testing, and had prior DUI history, and now faces multiple serious charges including DUI and serious injury by vehicle.
2. 2 men sentenced in multi-state Walmart theft of more than $300K in merchandise (11alive.com) — Cumming is among several Georgia cities where thieves stole merchandise from Walmart as part of a multi-state shoplifting ring that took more than $360,000 in goods. Two men have now been sentenced under Georgia's RICO and organized retail theft laws, with long prison terms and restitution ordered after investigators tied them to dozens of incidents across 10 states.
3. Sunrise and sunset times in Georgia under permanent Daylight Saving Time (islandpacket.com) — If Congress approves permanent Daylight Saving Time, Cumming winter sunrises would shift to about 8:42 a.m. and sunsets to around 6:37 p.m., roughly an hour later than now. Georgia already passed a law to stay on DST year-round, but it can't take effect until federal law changes, so residents should still plan to turn clocks back on November 1, 2026.
4. Spain Park anglers win high school fishing tournament on Lake Guntersville (hooversun.com) — A Forsyth Central High School team from Cumming earned a strong fourth-place finish at a Major League Fishing high school tournament on Lake Guntersville, weighing in five bass at 18 pounds, 7 ounces. Their performance helped highlight Georgia anglers in a highly competitive regional field and put local students on the national high school fishing map.
5. Has Petfinder Caved? Rare Censored Dog Breeds (blogspot.com) — An animal writer highlights Valley, a deaf French Bulldog–type dog available through Furkids Animal Rescue and Shelters in Cumming, noting he's playful but needs extra protection because he can't hear dangers like traffic. The piece critiques breed restrictions on Petfinder, explains health challenges of several breeds, and encourages thoughtful adoption, especially for special-needs dogs like Valley who require experienced, attentive families.
