CUMMING, GA — Kicking off a sports or fitness journey may now be more affordable for families with the recent opening of Play It Again Sports in Cumming.
Patch recently spoke with co-owner Corey Snowberger, who operates the local franchise alongside wife Lori. They opened the store on Sept. 3.
New and used sports and fitness gear can be found at the Atlanta Road business, which offers buying, selling and trading options.
"I never want to hear a family say that it was not affordable for them to start a sport," Snowberger said. "We want people to start sports and grow in sports."
With a hospitality background, Snowberger strived to venture into a franchise that would provide sustainability and make way for him to serve and support people.
He and his wife researched various franchising opportunities and came across Play It Again Sports, a company where he plans to establish a service-first, customer-first culture.
Snowberger, an Atlanta Braves fan, aims to meet the athletic needs of the community at varying price-points. Through Play It Again Sports, he strives to make it more economical for people to leap into their sports journey.
Items available for sale are dependent upon what sellers bring into the store. The inventory is ever-changing.
"We have something new every day to put on our shelves and on display for our visitors," Snowberger said.
Here's the scenario: say a person wants to sell a football helmet at Play It Again Sports. They would take it to the Forsyth County store so the helmet can be evaluated by a team member.
The associate would then research the resale retail price for the helmet in the store system. Depending on the helmet's quality, the seller would be offered 40-60 percent cash for the bat.
"We accept it all," Snowberger said.
Before opening Play It Again Sports, the goal was to buy and stock enough inventory for eight weeks; however, overwhelming community support allowed the store to open four weeks early.
The community has knocked it out the park with feedback, "pleasantly surprising" Snowberger, he said. Visitors said Play It Again Sports, a first-of-its-kind in the Cumming area, is necessary due to the expensive cost of starting a sport.
Play It Again Sports offers the 5 Stars loyalty program. Buyers and sellers can earn 1 point per $1.
Points can be redeemed, starting at 50 points, to go toward purchases in the store.
To anyone interested in opening their own business, Snowberger advised researching, considering franchises, speaking to others and going for it.
As for the potential expansion of Play It Again Sports, Snowberger said, "God willing."
