Former Forsyth Jailer Charged With Sex With Inmate

Noah Boswell has been arrested nearly a year after he was fired for the assault, which allegedly happened between May 1-17 of 2016.

CUMMING, GA β€” A former Forsyth County jailer has been charged with sexual assault nearly a year after he was fired for allegedly having sex with an inmate.

Noah Boswell surrendered himself at the Forsyth County Detention Center in late May, the sheriff's office recently announced in a news release.

Boswell had been fired from his job at that very location on August 23, 2016.

The case is centered around charges that Boswell had "sexual contact with a person in custody" between May 1 and May 17 of 2016. The sheriff's office launched an internal affairs investigation starting in July of last year and Boswell was fired the following month.

According to the news release, the criminal charges were so long in coming because the administration of former Sheriff Duane K. Piper didn't conduct a criminal investigation to coincide with the internal investigation. The administration didn't ask the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to look into the case either, the release said.

When Sheriff Ron Freeman took office in January, he ordered a review of all previous major internal affairs cases. The Major Crimes unit found "there was a significant failure to criminally investigate this incident," according to the release.

"Based on this finding, a criminal investigation into the alleged felony sexual contact with a person in custody was launched," office spokesman Dep. Doug Rainwater said in the release.

Boswell is charged with felony custodial sexual assault. He has been released on a $5,630 bond and is currently awaiting the case being presented to a grand jury.
