Fowler Water Reclamation Facility Expansion Completed

CUMMING, GA — Forsyth County officials held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday for a recent expansion at the Fowler Water Reclamation Facility in southwest Forsyth.

The expansion at the facility, which was completed in early 2021, increased the wastewater treatment capacity from 2.5 million gallons per day to five million. The improvements allow for Fowler Water Reclamation Facility to incrementally expand up to 7.5 million gallons per day capacity, as needed.

  • New four million-gallon equalization tank that provides the ability to manage peak flows for consistent treatment and wastewater storage for maintenance or emergencies
  • Addition of membrane bioreactor technology to maintain the county’s ability to reuse water and increase flows to the Chattahoochee River
  • Upgrades to existing systems and equipment

“We are pleased with the upgrades to the Fowler Water Reclamation Facility that allow for us to expand operations as needed with future population growth,” Forsyth County Department of Water & Sewer Director Barry Lucas said. “We are also pleased to announce that throughout the construction period, Fowler Water Reclamation Facility had no interruptions to the facility’s operations”

The Fowler Water Reclamation Facility is one of six Forsyth County Water and Sewer Department Water Reclamation Facilities that remove contaminants from household and commercial wastewater through a series of physical, chemical and biological treatment processes.

By complying with, or exceeding, all state and federal regulations governing wastewater treatment, treated wastewater is safely discharged back into the environment.
