Gas Leak Shuts Down Cumming Shopping Center

CUMMING, GA — A shopping center in Cumming was evacuated Friday morning due to a gas leak in the parking lot.

The Lanier Crossing Shopping Center, at Hutchinson Road and Atlanta Highway, was shut down after a plumber working in the back of the Hobby Lobby hit a gas line, Forsyth County Sheriff's Office spokesman Deputy Douglas Rainwater said.

All stores in the strip were evacuated while fire department crews investigated the scene. Atlanta Gas sent a repair crew to cap the leak.

The incident happened at about 8:30 a.m. By 10:30 a.m., emergency crews cleared the scene and customers and employees were allowed back into the 12 businesses in the complex.
