New Phone Scam Making The Rounds In Forsyth County
The scammers attempted to fool a Forsyth County Sheriff's deputy during a call Tuesday morning.

CUMMING, GA β Forsyth County authorities are warning the public about a new telephone scam that appears to be making the rounds.
Tuesday afternoon, sheriff's DFC Patrick Sternik wrote that, earlier in the day, he had been targeted by the scammers.
During the call, Sternik wrote on Facebook, he was invited to apply for an education grant that he would not have to pay back.

The calls came from (917)193-5971 and (917)193-5273, which come back on ID as "United States," he wrote.
After giving the callers false information about himself, the deputy was told he qualified for a huge money grant and asked a few questions about school.

Two different callers then coached him on what to say, then patched him through to what they claimed was the Department of Education.
When he "said something wrong," he was disconnected and connected back to the original caller. The line disconnected shortly after that, Sternik wrote.
"This is the first time I have received this scam call, so we wanted to let everyone know that it is out there now," Sternik wrote.
