Outdoor Air Dangerous for Children, At-Risk Groups Wednesday

A hazy day in Cumming on Wednesday could have dangerous consequences for children and others sensitive to smog, according to the National Weather Service.

Metro Atlanta is under a Code Orange air quality alert for Wednesday.

A Code Orange Alert means air quality is forecast to be unhealthy for sensitive groups, such as older adults, children, and those who suffer from heart or lung conditions (including asthma),

The weather service said those sensitive to poor air quality should avoid prolonged outdoor exposure during the late afternoon and early evening, when ozone concentrations are at their highest.

Health Advisory: In this range the outdoor air is likely to be unhealthy for some people. Children, people who are sensitive to ozone, and people with heart or lung disease should limit prolonged outdoor exertion during the late afternoon or early evening when ozone concentrations are highest.

High temperatures Wednesday are expected to be around 90 degrees through most of the metro area, according to the weather service.
