Publix to Support Habitat for Humanity Building Efforts in North Central Georgia
FORSYTH COUNTY, GA (March 22, 2019) – Habitat for Humanity-North Central Georgia receives a $50,000 grant from Publix Super Markets Charities to build a home for a local family in Forsyth County. Not only has Publix committed to funding a portion of the build, but Publix employees will work side by side with the family to build their home.
“We are committed to the well-being of our communities,” said Executive Director of Publix Super Markets Charities, Kelly Williams-Puccio. “Our foundation is continuing George Jenkins’ legacy of supporting the communities Publix serves and providing hope to those in need.”
“We are extremely grateful to have Publix Super Markets Charities and Publix employees as partners in our efforts to provide affordable housing in our local community,” said Russell Hayes, President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity-North Central Georgia, Inc. “The foundation not only supports Habitat for Humanity affiliates across the southeast, but has demonstrated its commitment over the years to strengthening families and communities in North Central Georgia by sponsoring the construction of 13 homes with a total financial commitment of nearly $700,000. In addition, Publix employees volunteer hundreds of hours during construction of Publix-sponsored builds.”

About Habitat for Humanity-North Central Georgia
Habitat for Humanity-North Central Georgia is a non-profit, Christian housing ministry that builds affordable housing for purchase by low- to moderate-income families who demonstrate a capacity for responsible homeownership. Since its inception in 1995, Habitat-NCG has built or rehabbed over 300 homes in North Fulton, Cherokee and Forsyth/Dawson counties. Partner families are required to attend educational classes related to homeownership and perform 200 sweat equity hours; they earn between 30% and 60% of the Atlanta area median income and purchase their homes through a 30-year, no-interest loan financed by Habitat-NCG. In 2014, Habitat-NCG started a home repair program targeted primarily at veterans and seniors. To date, 54 repair projects have been completed, bringing the total number of persons served by the ministry to over 1300, including more than 750 children.
