From the bizarre to the tragic, here are five police stories that made headlines in Forsyth County in 2017.

FORSYTH COUNTY, GA — Police in Forsyth County stepped up to solve crimes and respond to concerns in their communities in ways big and small in 2017. Patch was there to chronicle some of the above-and-beyond steps the departments took this year, which included making an arrest in the subdivision fires case and saving a heroin overdose victim.

Arson Suspect Abandoned 6-Month-Old Child: Sheriff

A man accused of setting three fires, in July, in two south Forsyth County subdivisions was originally arrested on charges that he left his 6-month-old baby at home alone. Piyushkumar Dayalaji Mistry is charged with three counts of first-degree arson in connection with the fires, which happened in the Springmonte and Saddlebrook subdivisions in south Forsyth.

Forsyth Man Charged With Arson In Subdivision Fires

A Forsyth County man was arrested in July on charges he intentionally set three fires in local subdivisions.
Piyushkumar Dayalaji Mistry was charged with three counts of first-degree arson in connection with the fires, which happened in the Springmonte and Saddlebrook subdivisions in south Forsyth.

Man Charged With DUI, Homicide In Forsyth Teen's Death

A 21-year-old Loganville man was charged with DUI and homicide in the July 4 death of a 15-year-old high school student from Forsyth County. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that Brayden Lewis Clark faced charges of homicide by vehicle and driving under the influence in the Dawson County crash, which also injured three other teens.

Forsyth Deputies Save Heroin Overdose Victim

Forsyth County sheriff's deputies used an anti-opioid drug to save the life of a man who had overdosed on heroin in July. Deputies responded to a suspicious activity call in the parking lot of Publix at Hammond's Crossing. They were told by the caller that a suspicious vehicle had left the parking lot, then pulled into the lot at the nearby Valero gas station.

Arrest Made In Cumming Home Burglary

A suspect was arrested in a residential burglary in July at a home in Cumming. Demario Anqual Young, 37, had been identified by investigators as a suspect in the case. He was located and arrested in Fulton County for the burglary, which happened on Campground Road.
