Three Families Celebrate New Beginnings with Their Habitat Homes

Habitat for Humanity- North Central Georgia at work our community

In the past three weeks, Habitat for Humanity-North Central Georgia has celebrated the dedication of two homes in Northeast Forsyth County. The families, volunteers, donors, board and staff of this local non-profit homebuilder gathered together to enjoy the completion of the Abbas Family’s home on May 12th and the Ettadmouti-El Bissis Family’s home on June 2nd. The families have very different backgrounds, but both aspired to having an affordable, safe and stable home in which to live; and, on their dedication dates, they saw their dreams come true. A typical home built by Habitat for Humanity-North Central Georgia requires the contribution of 3,000 volunteer hours in addition to the professionals utilized for critical items such as electrical, plumbing, and HVAC. The General Motors Foundation provided the funding for the construction of the Abbas home and the majority of the volunteer labor. Solvay Specialty Polymers LLC and the Catholic Church of the Good Shepherd also provided volunteers and funds to purchase the land. Publix Super Market Charities provided funding and volunteer support for the Ettadmouti-El Bissis home along with ADP as a land sponsor.

Tabassum Abbas and her three children, ranging in age from 7-18, are excited to move into their new home. The 4-bedroom home offers them a new beginning closer to their extended family in Forsyth County. Tab stated, “We have so much to be grateful for; the help of countless volunteers, the support of families and friends, and the many others that helped make our dream come true.”

This past Saturday, the start of a new home a few miles away on Windy Oaks Road was officially recognized with a First Nail Ceremony. The Smith Family is excited to have the opportunity to live in more permanent housing. Scotty and his two children ages 2 and 7 look forward to their forever home which will be completed in late September 2018.
