10U Mill Creek Hawks Finish Season Undefeated
Head Coach Andy Mitchell tells us about their amazing season.
The 10U Mill Creek Hawks baseball team had an amazing season, finishing 18-0.
“It was just an unbelievable season,” said head coach Andy Mitchell. “We have a great group of kids and a great group of families. We took every game for what it was, and did not really think about going undefeated, we just played our hardest. It was a really special season for the kids and they all had a great time.”
The team then went into the GGBL tournament and went 6-0 to be the Gwinnett County 10U Champions.

“We played some great opponents in the series,” Mitchell said, “and like the regular season we just kept focusing on the game that was in front of us. Our kids learned a lot over the season; they learned never to give up, never take an opponent for granted, and we always try to focus and do the best you can.”
The Hawks played a very good Parkview team in the championship and beat them in game one 7-5 in a best of three series. In game two, they went down early and were down at one point 4-12.

“Like true champions do, we battled back and took the lead on a huge hit with bases loaded by James Mitchell (#55),” Mitchell explained. “He then came in and closed it out and had to face the tough part of Parkview’s top of the order. We got the best hitter on their team to ground out to short and Trey Mullins (#7) made a great play and threw the runner out at first base with a great end of game catch by Anthony Roides (#13)."
This season the boys learned what it takes to be champions both on and off the field.
“In baseball, there are a lot of parallel with life, and this was a great opportunity to show them what can happen if you do not give up – you can come out ahead,” Mitchell added.
Another great parallel between life and baseball is that in order to succeed in both, you have to learn to work with others and stand out as an individual.
“All of the boys contributed, and that is what made us a special team,” Mitchell said. “We are a team from top to bottom, but I always try to tell my kids that you really have to try to make yourself stand out too. You are part of a team and when someone is down, hopefully someone else can step up. They all did really well throughout the whole season.”
Going undefeated is an accomplishment, and it truly was a dream season for the 10U Mill Creek Hawks baseball team.
“It was an amazing season that I am sure the boys will never forget,” Mitchell said proudly. “Going undefeated for the season and through the championship is definitely something that does not happen all the time.”
