This Week in Sports: Scrimmages Pave Way for Season Openers

The official start of high school volleyball season is just one week away for , and .

The Lady Hawks are preparing for the season with a scrimmage today at 4:30 p.m. at the Suwanee Sports Academy and will participate in the Sequoyah Classic this Friday and Saturday.

Mill Creek’s first match of the season will be Tuesday, Aug. 16 at Greater Atlanta Christian. The Lady Hawks will take on GAC and Eagles Landing beginning at 4:55 p.m.

Dacula will also go into action on the 16th. The Lady Falcons will travel to West Forsyth for a match scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.

Hebron’s first match of the season will be in Jefferson. The Lady Lions will take on George Walton and Jefferson beginning at 6 p.m.

Varsity Softball

Mill Creek’s softball team will scrimmage on Wednesday, Aug. 10 at Brookwood. The first pitch is set for 5 p.m. The first game for the Lady Hawks will be next Tuesday at Mountain View. The action begins at 5:55 p.m.

The Lady Falcons begin season play on Aug. 16 against Norcross. Dacula will take the field at 6 p.m.

Hebron scrimmages today against Habersham Central in Cornelia. The Lady Lions will open their season next Tuesday as they play host to George Walton. The first pitch is set for 4:45 p.m.

Varsity Football

The Hebron Lions will have their first test in a scrimmage against Riverside Military Academy this Friday. Kickoff for the Aug. 12 game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Riverside. The Lions will travel to Prince Avenue on Aug. 26 for the first game of the regular season.

Mill Creek also scrimmages this week. The Hawks will host South Gwinnett on Friday, Aug. 12. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

The first game of the 2011 season for the Hawks will be an Aug. 26 matchup against cross-town rival Dacula. The Falcons will host this year. Kickoff for the annual rivalry is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

The Falcons will prep for the Mill Creek season opener with a scrimmage this Friday against the Colquitt County Packers. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. at Dacula High School.
