📰 News we're reading

1. Dalton hopes tiny 'pocket neighborhood' can help open door to more affordable housing (newschannel9.com) — Dalton is turning 1.3 acres of city-owned land into a pilot "pocket neighborhood" of small, owner-occupied cottages around shared greenspace, testing new zoning rules aimed at boosting affordable housing. If successful, officials hope it will encourage more courtyard-style developments and expand lower-cost homeownership options for Dalton residents across the city.

2. Dalton's first recreation center gets new life after nearly 3-year rebuild (newschannel9.com) — Dalton has reopened the completely rebuilt John Davis Recreation Center at James Brown Park, offering a new gym, meeting rooms, upgraded pool facilities, and even an outdoor climbing wall. Funded by the 2020 SPLOST, the center will host everything from sports and arts classes to community meetings and voting, renewing a beloved gathering place for generations of Dalton families.

3. 11th Hour Theatre Brings A Gothic, Vampiric Macbeth To Dalton This October (chattanoogan.com) — A gothic, vampire-themed production of Macbeth is coming to 11th Hour Theatre and Creative Studio on East Morris Street in Dalton from Oct. 2-10, with multiple evening and matinee performances. Local and regional actors are collaborating on a spooky, folklore-inspired take designed to kick off the Halloween season, and tickets are available online for Dalton and North Georgia theater fans.

4. Woodland softball tops Sonoraville; Lady Tigers fall at Chattooga (bartowsportszone.com subscription) — Woodland's softball team, fresh off a 4-1 win over Sonoraville, is heading to Dalton for a Thursday evening matchup that local fans can attend. The recap also highlights Adairsville's loss at Chattooga, but the key detail for Dalton readers is the Wildcats' visit and the chance to see regional high school softball in person.
