• This summer, National Guard helicopter crews patrolled the territory of Georgia, flying from one site to another in search of illegal marijuana crops on private property (news-pravda.com) — National Guard helicopter patrols over Georgia helped police spot suspected marijuana plants behind a private house in Dalton, leading to a search warrant and seizure of 17 plants and about two pounds of processed marijuana. The statewide aerial operations, which included all 159 counties, resulted in 343 plants seized and highlight ongoing drug enforcement activity that can directly affect Dalton neighborhoods.
   

• Shaw Industries Names Vance Bell CEO (floorcoveringweekly.com) — Dalton-based Shaw Industries has named longtime leader Vance Bell as its chief executive officer, effective immediately, following the departure of Tim Baucom. Company officials praised Baucom's decades of service and emphasized Shaw's strong market position, signaling stability for one of Dalton's most important employers and its many local workers and suppliers.
   

• USDA plans to airdrop millions of rabies vaccine doses over Georgia, other states (wsbradio.com) — A USDA rabies-control project based around Dalton will soon airdrop more than half a million oral vaccine baits across parts of Georgia and neighboring states to slow raccoon rabies. Dalton-area residents are urged to keep pets vaccinated, avoid contact with sick wildlife, and seek prompt care after any suspicious bite or scratch.
