Teen Girl Dead, Woman Hurt In Candler Street Shooting

Decatur Police say the two victims were in a vehicle at about 5:48 p.m. on Wednesday.

DECATUR, GA — A 17-year-old girl was killed and a woman was injured Wednesday in a shooting in Decatur.

The shooting happened at the intersection of South Candler Street and Midway Road, in the College Heights neighborhood. At about 5:48 p.m., Decatur Police were called to the scene, where they found two victims who had been shot while inside a vehicle.

Both were taken to a local hospital, according to police. Janae Owens, 17, was pronounced dead. An adult woman, whom police were not identifying on Thursday, was being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

A third person who was in the vehicle was not injured, Decatur Police said.

The suspect, who police say was driving a black Chrysler 200 or 300, was last seen driving southbound on South Candler Street.
