2016 Walk to School Day: Who's Walking in Decatur?
Almost 5,000 schools are participating in the event on Wednesday, Oct. 5. Here's what happening in Decatur.

Several Decatur city schools are participating in the 2016 International Walk to School Day, set for Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016.
The event has been held since 1997 as a way to encourage families and communities to support year-round safe routes to schools.
The first event was called Walk Our Children to School Day. This year, almost 5,000 schools from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico, are participating.

Here are the local schools that are participating:
- 4/5 Academy at 5th Avenue
- Clairemont Elementary School
- Glennwood Elementary School
- Oakhurst Elementary School
- Renfroe Middle School
- Winnona Park Elementary School
Next year's event will be held Oct. 10, and Walk to School Day 2019 is set for Oct. 2, 2019.
