8-Year-Old Girl Dies After She, Mom Hit By Car

The mother was carrying her child as they were crossing a street for a DeKalb County school bus, police said.

DECATUR, GA — An 8-year-old girl was killed after she and her mother were hit by a car Friday morning while trying to get on a DeKalb County school bus.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the mother was holding Tluang Tha Men in her arms as they were crossing Rays Road at Central Drive in the Stone Mountain area. The mom, Dawt Chin Sung, has moderate injuries, a DeKalb County Police spokesman told the AJC.

Both were taken to a nearby hospital and Tluang had injuries to her hip and head, according to police. She died hours later, according to DeKalb police spokesman Lt. Lonzy Robertson.

The driver, Ejigayheu H. Tsegaye, 38, has charges pending against her, Robertson said.

The driver stayed at the scene of the crash. The driver was northbound on Rays Road and had a green light, according to police, but the school bus was stopped with its lights flashing and a stop sign out.

The mother and child were in a crosswalk when they were hit, police said. The driver of the car was reportedly a woman who had two children in the car with her at the time. The school bus was headed to International Community Charter School in Decatur.
