Here are the top three stories today in Decatur-Avondale Estates:

  1. The Clarkston First Baptist Academy is currently under investigation after a mother accused one of its employees of abusing a toddler. The mother told police that she saw her three-year-old son slammed to the ground and pulled by his hair on surveillance video. The daycare's director sent a letter to the mother concluding that their investigation didn't see anything she described to the police. However, in the incident report, a Clarkson Police officer confirms seeing the abuse in the aforementioned tapes. (Decatur-Avondale Estates Patch)
  2. A Decatur county man with a violent felony criminal history has pled guilty to possessing numerous stolen firearms. James Currin, 44, of Bainbridge pled guilty on Jul. 7 and is facing a maximum of ten years in prison to be followed by three years of supervised release with a $250,000 fine. When Currin was being investigated for drug-related crimes in 2019, police were also looking into the theft of over 20 firearms. Deputies learned in 2020 that the burglary suspect had traded stolen firearms to Currin in exchange for methamphetamine. (Post Searchlight)
  3. A prisoner transport bus carrying 11 inmates and a sedan were involved in a head-on crash in Avondale Estates. Both vehicles suffered front-end damage. The driver of the van and the prisoners were taken back to the jail to be triaged for injuries. The cause of the crash is under investigation. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
