Higher Calling Christian Academy

Higher Calling Christian Academy (HCCA) is a faith-based learning community located in South DeKalb County dedicated to helping children grow academically, socially, emotionally, and creatively in a safe and nurturing environment. Our Summer Camp 2026 theme, “Choose Your Adventure: A Summer of Discovery at HCCA,” gives families the flexibility to enroll their child for the entire summer or select individual weeks based on their child’s interests. Throughout the summer, campers ages 5–12 will experience engaging, hands-on learning through themed weeks focused on gardening and sustainability, STEAM exploration, sports and teamwork, entrepreneurship, leadership, and creative discovery. Campers will participate in exciting activities including outdoor exploration, science experiments, engineering challenges, team games, creative arts, field trips, and youth business projects. A strong focus of our summer program is literacy and enrichment. Campers will participate in daily reading and enrichment activities designed to strengthen comprehension, creativity, communication, and critical thinking skills. As part of our literacy initiative, campers will visit the local public library twice each week to participate in summer reading opportunities, explore new books, and develop a love for reading and learning. What makes HCCA unique is our commitment to combining fun, enrichment, and purpose in a supportive Christian-centered environment. We strive to support the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development of every child while encouraging creativity, confidence, leadership, and exploration. Families appreciate our flexible enrollment options, affordable pricing, extended hours from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., three meals provided daily, and CAPS acceptance. Our goal is to create a summer experience where children are not only cared for, but inspired to learn, grow, build friendships, and create lasting memories. Founded by entrepreneur Sumiyyah Rasheed, the minority woman-owned company specializes in designing and manufacturing products for curvy women, post-surgical patients, and women experiencing the physical changes associated with perimenopause. With more than 25 years of experience in apparel development and technical design, the company focuses on creating garments that combine comfort, support, and confidence. Based in the Atlanta metropolitan area, SWH Apparel develops large-cup intimate apparel, post-surgical support garments, wellness apparel, and technical apparel solutions. The company is also the manufacturer behind AlexisS Intimates, a woman-owned lingerie brand designed specifically for curvy women seeking stylish, supportive lingerie and large-cup bras. "We recognized that many women were being underserved by traditional apparel manufacturers," said Rasheed. "Our goal is to create products that fit properly, provide support, and help women feel confident at every stage of life." Adams Apples will celebrate their grand opening Saturday in their new Avondale Estates storefront at 114 N. Avondale Road.  The new store opens at 10 a.m.   Adams Apples moved into the space formerly occupied by Sweet and Sinful. They will continue to offer flowers, balloons, and event services. However, the store also sells gourmet apples and fine chocolates. Regular store hours will be Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Editor's note: Previous stories listed different business hours and did not say Adams Apples moved into the space formerly occupied by Sweet and Sinful.
