Alabama Fugitive Nabbed In DeKalb: Report
Shane Anthony Vernon broke out of a county jail Sunday and robbed two families, say authorities.

ATLANTA, GA — A fugitive who escaped from an Alabama jail over the weekend, robbed residents and stole several vehicles has been apprehended in DeKalb County, according to media reports. Shane Anthony Vernon, 27, was arrested Tuesday night in DeKalb County, the sheriff's office in Coosa County, Ala., announced on its Facebook page.
Vernon is being held in the DeKalb County Jail and awaiting extradition to Alabama, the sheriff's office said. He broke out of the jail in Coosa County, about 65 miles southeast of Birmingham, on Sunday afternoon and broke into a home in Rockford, Ala., the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
Vernon tied up and robbed the residents, stole their car and later abandoned it, the AJC reported. On Monday, he robbed another family at gunpoint in Titus, Ala., and then kidnapped a man in Wetumpka, Ala., and stole his car.

Police found the vehicle and the victim Tuesday in Douglas County, the AJC reported. Officials said that Vernon is facing a variety of criminal charges, including three counts of robbery, two counts of burglary and one count of kidnapping, as well as second-degree escape, two counts of robbery, two counts of imprisonment and one count of theft of property.
