Homeland Security Officer Indicted In DeKalb Shooting

A Homeland Security officer is facing aggravated assault charges after a shooting injured a man at a DeKalb County apartment complex.

DECATUR, GA — A Homeland Security officer was recently indicted by a grand jury in connection with a shooting that injured a man during a noise complaint, DeKalb County prosecutors said Friday.

The officer was identified as Quadrus Wilson, 49, of Marietta, according to the DeKalb County District Attorney's Office.

The incident happened around 2:30 a.m., July 27, at a Treecrest Parkway apartment in unincorporated Decatur, prosecutors said.

When DeKalb County Police officers arrived, Wilson's family member told them he was at her apartment to celebrate his birthday, prosecutors said.

Wilson then engaged in an argument with her boyfriend and chose to go home, prosecutors said. He left but returned to the apartment, banging on the door and yelling "'police,'" prosecutors said.

The family member barricaded the door in efforts to block Wilson from getting inside the apartment, prosecutors said.

An upstairs neighbor told officers he overheard screaming and banging for about an hour and decided to open his front door, prosecutors said. They added the neighbor was armed with a rifle and called out to see "what all the noise was about."

Wilson, who had drew his gun, then went upstairs to confront the neighbor and identified himself as a police officer, prosecutors said.

He ordered the man to drop his gun, but the man went back into his apartment and slightly closed the door, prosecutors said.

Wilson then opened the front door, demanded the man drop his gun and shot into the man's apartment several times, hitting the man in the right arm, prosecutors said.

Wilson stayed at the scene and was taken into custody when officers arrived, prosecutors said. He identified himself as a U.S. Department of Homeland Security officer, prosecutors said.

He is being held without bond at the DeKalb County Jail and was indicted on charges of aggravated assault, false imprisonment, two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, first-degree criminal damage to property, terroristic threats and criminal trespass, prosecutors said.

Wilson will be arraigned, and afterwards, a trial date will be set.
