Applications Accepted For DeKalb County Police's Citizens Academy
The eight-week virtual academy begins Aug. 25 and includes discussions about police scenarios, use of force and crisis intervention.
DECATUR, GA — DeKalb County residents have the opportunity to get an insider’s look at local law enforcement through the department’s annual citizens’ police academy.
This year’s eight-week program will be held virtually and will run from Aug. 25 until Oct. 20. The academy will meet from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. every Wednesday.
Virtual sessions will include discussions on an overview of the DeKalb County Police Department, police scenarios, use of force, internal affairs, an overview of the court system and crisis intervention along with self-defense and gun safety.

Participants must be 21 years or older, live in work in DeKalb County, cannot possess any prior felony convictions and must consent to a background check.
The application deadline is Aug. 11.
