Avondale Outage Knocks Out Power Downtown
City Hall was among the buildings without power after thunderstorms Tuesday.

AVONDALE ESTATES, GA -- City hall was among the buildings without power in Avondale Estates on Tuesday due to a power outage.
The outage, which happened after heavy thunderstorms swept through the area Tuesday afternoon, happened when an electrical recloser exploded on a Georgia Power pole, Avondale city officials said in an email.
The pole was near the American Legion building in Avondale Estates.

Georgia Power was on the scene as of about 4:15 p.m. Tuesday afternoon and estimated it would take at least another hour to get power restored to the downtown area.
Because of the outage, city hall was unable to receive phone calls or emails Tuesday afternoon.
